The Seabrook McKenzie Centre offers two NZQA-accredited courses to support (Level 4) and teach (Level 5) individuals with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD).
Benefits of studying with us:
Our courses are delivered at our Centre. You will be face to face with a qualified lecturer who is experienced in the teaching and tutoring of students with a specific learning disability. The small group means you have a chance to learn from each other and have your individual situation addressed by the lecturer. The dates are all weekend or school holiday dates and will allow you to do the course without needing time off from your teaching or teacher aide job. You can also do the course if you are not presently working in a school. The Level 5 course qualifies you, if you wish, to be part of our bank of qualified, registered, self-employed tutors and receive referrals from us for prospective students.
NZQA Course Dates 2022: UPDATE
The course for 2022 is deferred. We are taking time out to thoroughly revitalise the course and will return in 2023.
Courses are typically all-day sessions to maximise the time for those who travel from out of town. For the same reason, dates are organised for school holidays and weekends beginning in the school holiday at the end of Term One.
The cost for Level 4 in 2021: is $1,000.
The cost for Level 5 in 2021: Module 1 is $1000. Module 2 is $600.
The fees are paid in instalments when invoiced over the year:
2 x $300 and 1 x $400 for the Level 4 course
2 x $300 and 1 x $400 (as for Level 4) and 1 x $600 for the Level 5 course.
The fee is GST inclusive, and covers lectures and course materials, excluding stationery.
A third of the course fees go towards covering NZQA annual fees and compliance fees.
Selected resources and teaching materials will be available for purchase by the trainees but are not necessary to complete the course.
Please email info@seabrookmckenzie.net to request an application form, express interest or ask questions.
This year, for the first time, there is a subsidy available for out- of-town applicants. The amount of the subsidy will depend on numbers eligible and will be calculated when the fees are invoiced.
