Seabrook McKenzie In-depth Introduction to Specific Learning Disabilities
This course is to provide school staff and parents with a framework to understand and support neurodiverse learners with Specific Learning Disabilities (SLDs), including dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia, and more. You will gain knowledge that will help you support individuals and adults with SLDs in different educational settings, including an introduction to evidence-based interventions.

Our course is custom designed and led by a team of experienced instructors, practitioners and experts in the field of SLDs. It is founded on the science of learning but focused on practical techniques to work with students. Major topics will include:

Understanding how SLDs affect learning and wellbeing.

How teaching can be best adapted for students with SLDs.

Effective intervention methods, and how to plan, implement, and monitor evidence-based interventions.

How to consider other types of neurodiversity that often co-occur with SLDs (e.g. ADHD, autism, anxiety).
This course will appeal to teacher aides who looking to further develop their skills, as well as to SENCOs, LSCs, and other professionals working to support SLD individuals. Some parents may also be interested in taking this course (including home-schooling parents).
You can choose to take the course face-to-face in Christchurch or by distance. It will run from 13th April to 14th July 2026, and consist of four 1-day seminars on roughly every second Saturday of Term 2, plus two 1-day seminars in both the first and second school holidays.
